China, Saudi Arabia Forge Stronger Economic Ties

(MENAFN) China and Saudi Arabia have committed to intensifying collaboration across trade, investment, and industrial supply chains, with a joint pledge to uphold a multilateral trading system, Chinese state media reported on Wednesday.

The agreement was forged during a meeting in Beijing on Tuesday between China’s Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and Saudi Arabia’s Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih. Their talks took place just ahead of the China-Arab States Expo, a four-day event set to begin Thursday in Yinchuan, located in northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

According to a statement from China’s Commerce Ministry, the discussions focused on strategies to boost bilateral trade, deepen investment ties, and coordinate supply chain development.

The meeting coincided with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

China expressed readiness to integrate its Belt and Road Initiative with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aiming to enhance cooperation in emerging sectors such as new energy, capital markets, and high-value supply chains.

With both economies confronting a turbulent global landscape and increasing pressure on the multilateral trade system, officials from both sides emphasized the importance of reinforcing coordination within frameworks such as the G20 and WTO to defend international trade rules and support multilateralism through open collaboration.

Saudi Arabia, for its part, affirmed its interest in increasing trade engagement and facilitating greater Saudi investment in China. Riyadh also extended an invitation for more Chinese enterprises to establish a presence in the Kingdom.

The dialogue further highlighted shared ambitions in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and joint development of industrial parks, reinforcing the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

In a parallel effort to advance these objectives, a separate China-Saudi dialogue was held Tuesday in Beijing, bringing together officials and business leaders. This session enabled direct interaction between companies from both nations, spotlighting cooperation on major projects, industrial chain integration, and new investment opportunities.
