Vietnam Reports Ten Dead in Floods from Typhoon Matmo

(MENAFN) Heavy rainfall and flooding caused by Typhoon Matmo have resulted in 10 fatalities and left seven people injured across northern and north-central Vietnam, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority confirmed on Thursday.

The storm submerged over 222,000 homes and caused severe damage to 711 others. Approximately 23,000 hectares of rice fields and other crops were also flooded. Livestock losses were significant, with nearly 360,000 animals either drowned or swept away.

Power outages disrupted electricity for more than 217,000 households, while communication systems faced partial interruptions, the report detailed.

In response, the Vietnamese government approved an emergency relief fund amounting to 140 billion Vietnamese dong (around 5.7 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday to aid the hardest-hit provinces, according to the authority.
