Japan PM to Address Iran Strikes in Trump Meeting
Takaichi is expected to travel to Washington later this month for a face-to-face summit with Trump, where the escalating Middle East crisis is set to dominate the agenda.
Addressing parliament, Takaichi stopped short of declaring the strikes a violation of international law, stating her government was not in a position to make a legal assessment at this stage, according to medias.
The strikes, which began Saturday, have systematically eliminated several of Iran's most senior officials. Among the dead is Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, whose killing has drawn widespread international reaction and pushed the region to the edge of broader conflict.
Tehran answered with retaliatory drone and missile barrages directed at US-linked installations across Gulf nations, leaving six American service members dead and several others critically wounded.
The human cost of the offensive continued to mount Tuesday, as the Iranian Red Crescent reported the cumulative death toll from US and Israeli airstrikes had risen to 787 since Saturday.
