Israeli Cabinet Discusses Temporary Hezbollah Ceasefire Proposal

(MENAFN) Israel’s security cabinet met late Wednesday to consider a possible temporary ceasefire with Hezbollah in Lebanon, following a request from the United States, according to reports from Israeli media.

An Israeli public broadcaster reported that discussions centered on a proposed short-term truce, though several ministers reportedly opposed the initiative during the meeting.

An unnamed Israeli official told the public broadcaster that negotiations for a temporary ceasefire are already at an advanced stage and suggested that an agreement could be reached within days.

The proposal has not yet received a response from Hezbollah.

According to reports, the U.S. initiative was first presented earlier in the week during diplomatic talks in Washington involving Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors. The discussions reportedly included the idea of a temporary pause in hostilities as part of broader diplomatic efforts.

However, Israel’s security establishment is said to remain divided, with some officials arguing that military operations in southern Lebanon should continue. They reportedly view ongoing ground activity as necessary to weaken Hezbollah and enforce disarmament efforts south of the Litani River.
