Ukrainian Drone Strike Kills Two in Russia’s Krasnodar Region

(MENAFN) At least two people were killed and eight others injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, according to local authorities on Thursday.

Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said in a Telegram statement that the attack hit residential buildings in the port town of Tuapse, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuring two additional individuals who are receiving medical treatment.

Tuapse is home to an oil export terminal and a refinery operated by the Moscow-based energy company Rosneft.

In a later update, the governor raised the number of injured in Tuapse to seven and said a state of emergency had been declared in the Tuapsinsky district. He added that falling drone debris damaged 24 private homes, six apartment buildings, two schools, and a music school.

He also reported that other coastal cities, including Sochi and Novorossiysk, were affected. In Novorossiysk, one person was hospitalized after drone debris struck a civilian aircraft, triggering a fire that was quickly contained.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 207 Ukrainian drones overnight across six regions, including Krasnodar, as well as over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
