JD Vance believes US government shutdown won’t last too long

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance estimated a short US government shutdown, acknowledging that neither the White House nor congressional Democrats have shown a desire to budge.

Vance stated to journalists at the White House that "I actually don't think it's going to be that long of a shutdown. This is a pure guess from the Vice President United States, because I think you already saw some evidence that moderate Democrats are cracking a little bit. They understand the fundamental illogic of this."

Vance made his remarks just one hour after Senate Democrats once again blocked a Republican funding proposal, one that had already passed the House and sought to keep the government funded at current levels through late November. With only three Democrats supporting the suggestion, it did not come close to reaching the crucial 60-vote threshold necessary to pass regulation in the chamber.

Democrats are pushing for health care improvement in the budget, such as undoing cuts to Medicaid funding established by President Trump's signature tax law, and also extending the financial aid provided through the nation’s quasi-universal health care law, the Affordable Care Act.
